Norbert Balatsch is a renowned Austrian music department, actor, and soundtrack composer. He is best known for his work on the films The Great Escape (1963), The Sound of Music (1965), and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). Born on March 10, 1928 in Vienna, Austria, Balatsch studied music at the Vienna Conservatory and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He began his career as a music director for the Vienna State Opera in the 1950s. In the 1960s, Balatsch moved to Hollywood and began working as a music director for films. He worked on the music for The Great Escape (1963), The Sound of Music (1965), and The Spy Who Loved Me (1977). He also composed the soundtrack for the television series The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964-1968). In addition to his work in film and television, Balatsch also composed music for the stage. He wrote the music for the Broadway musicals The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd (1965) and The Apple Tree (1966). Balatsch has been nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Music, Original Song Score and Adaptation or Best Music, Original Dramatic Score.
