Noreen Ackland was born in 1921 in Oakley Green, United Kingdom. She was a film editor who worked on a number of British films in the 1950s and 1960s. She was the first woman to be appointed as a film editor in the British film industry. Ackland began her career as a film editor in the 1950s, working on films such as The Man in the White Suit (1951), The Cruel Sea (1953), and The Dam Busters (1955). She was also the editor on the classic British comedy The Ladykillers (1955). In the 1960s, Ackland worked on a number of films, including The Spy Who Came in from the Cold (1965), The Ipcress File (1965), and The Wrong Box (1966). She was also the editor on the classic British comedy The Italian Job (1969). Ackland was the first woman to be appointed as a film editor in the British film industry. She was also the first woman to be awarded the British Film Editors Guild Award for Best Editing. Ackland retired from film editing in the 1970s. She died in 2004 at the age of 83.
