Osiris Rodríguez Castillos is a Uruguayan politician and diplomat who served as the President of Uruguay from 1981 to 1985. He was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on 21 July 1925. He studied law at the University of the Republic and graduated in 1950. Rodríguez Castillos began his political career in the 1950s, when he was elected to the Uruguayan Senate. He served as a senator until 1967, when he was appointed as the Uruguayan Ambassador to the United States. He served in this position until 1972, when he was appointed as the Uruguayan Ambassador to the United Nations. In 1981, Rodríguez Castillos was elected as the President of Uruguay. During his presidency, he implemented a number of economic reforms, including the privatization of state-owned companies and the liberalization of the Uruguayan economy. He also sought to improve relations with the United States and other Latin American countries. Rodríguez Castillos left office in 1985 and returned to his diplomatic career. He served as the Uruguayan Ambassador to the United Nations from 1985 to 1989 and as the Uruguayan Ambassador to the United States from 1989 to 1993.
