He has designed numerous buildings in Germany, including the Munich Olympic Stadium, the Bavarian State Library, and the Bavarian State Parliament. Meitinger studied architecture at the Technical University of Munich, graduating in 1954. He then worked for the architectural firm of Hans Scharoun in Berlin, before returning to Munich in 1957 to open his own practice. Meitinger has been awarded numerous honors for his work, including the Bavarian Order of Merit in 1975, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1985, and the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1995.
