Astol began his career in the theater, performing in plays such as El hombre de la mascara de hierro and El ángel exterminador. He made his film debut in the 1930s, appearing in films such as El hombre de la mascara de hierro and El esqueleto de la señora Morales. He went on to appear in numerous other films throughout his career, including El ángel exterminador, El hombre de la mascara de hierro, and El esqueleto de la señora Morales. At the time of his death in 2001, Astol was one of the oldest living actors in Mexico. He was 97 years old. He was married to actress María Luisa Zea, with whom he had two children.
