Bown was born on 11 October 1957 in Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, United Kingdom. He attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, graduating in 1981. Bown has appeared in a variety of television shows, including The Bill, Casualty, EastEnders, and Doctors. He is best known for his roles in the BBC sitcoms The Brittas Empire and My Hero. He also appeared in the films The World Is Not Enough and The Mummy Returns. Bown has been married to actress and singer Joanna Monro since 1989. They have two children.
