He is best known for his work on the soundtrack of the 2006 film The Departed, for which he won a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack Album. He has also composed music for films such as The Illusionist, The Kite Runner, and The Soloist. Cantelon was born in Glendale, California, and grew up in the San Fernando Valley. He began playing the piano at the age of five, and later studied classical music at the University of Southern California. He has also studied jazz and world music, and has worked with a variety of artists, including Herbie Hancock, Sting, and Yo-Yo Ma. Cantelon has composed music for television shows such as The West Wing, Grey's Anatomy, and House. He has also composed music for video games, including the popular game series Assassin's Creed. Cantelon is married to actress and singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb. They have two children.
