Kirui is a two-time winner of the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, having won in 2004 and 2006. He also won the bronze medal in the 10,000 metres at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics. Kirui has also won several other major races, including the Great North Run in 2004, the Great Manchester Run in 2005, and the Great South Run in 2006. He has also won the Kenyan National Cross Country Championships three times. Kirui is currently sponsored by Nike and is a member of the Nike Oregon Project. He is coached by Alberto Salazar.
