She was born in Hollis, Queens, New York City, and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. McLean was a member of the All-American Red Heads, a professional women's basketball team that toured the United States and Canada from 1947 to 1952. The team was founded by C.M. "Ole" Olson, who was the coach and owner of the team. The team was known for its fast-paced style of play and its red-and-white uniforms. McLean was a star player for the team, and was known for her shooting accuracy and her ability to drive to the basket. She was also known for her leadership and her ability to motivate her teammates. McLean retired from the All-American Red Heads in 1952 and went on to become a physical education teacher in New York City. She also served as a coach for the New York Liberty of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). McLean is now 96 years old and is living in New York City. She is still active in the basketball community and is a member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.
