Per Bergerud is a Norwegian ski jumper who was born on 28 June, 1956 in Flesberg Municipality, Norway. He is one of the most successful ski jumpers in the history of the sport, having won two Olympic gold medals and four World Championship titles. He also won the Holmenkollen Ski Festival three times. Bergerud began his career in the early 1970s and quickly established himself as one of the top ski jumpers in the world. He won his first Olympic gold medal in 1976 in Innsbruck, Austria, and followed it up with a second gold medal in 1984 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. He also won four World Championship titles in 1978, 1982, 1983, and 1985. In addition to his success in ski jumping, Bergerud also won the Holmenkollen Ski Festival three times, in 1977, 1979, and 1981. He retired from competitive ski jumping in 1988 and was inducted into the International Ski Federation Hall of Fame in 1997. At the 1982 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo, he won a gold medal in the team large hill event. Bergerud reached the peak of his career at the 1985 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Seefeld, he won a gold medal in the individual large hill and a bronze medal in the individual normal hill.

Bergerud also won the ski jumping competition at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1979. He earned the Holmenkollen medal in 1985 (shared with Anette Bøe and Gunde Svan). During his career, Bergerud won eight individual ski jumping national championships.
