Per Torsvik was a Norwegian politician and diplomat. He was born on 30 November 1925 in Oslo, Norway. He was the son of a lawyer and a teacher. He studied law at the University of Oslo and graduated in 1950. Torsvik was a member of the Norwegian Labour Party and served as a Member of Parliament from 1965 to 1973. He was also a member of the Norwegian delegation to the United Nations from 1965 to 1969. Torsvik was appointed as the Norwegian Ambassador to the United States in 1973 and served in that position until 1977. He was also the Norwegian Ambassador to the United Nations from 1977 to 1981. Torsvik was a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee from 1981 to 1989. He was also a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters from 1981 to 1989. Torsvik died on 28 April 2018 at the age of 92. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
