Peter Albin is an American musician, actor, and songwriter. He is best known as the bassist and co-founder of the psychedelic rock band Big Brother and the Holding Company, which he formed with Janis Joplin in 1965. He has also released several solo albums and acted in several films. Albin was born in San Francisco, California, on June 6, 1944. He began playing music at an early age, learning to play the guitar and bass. He attended San Francisco State University, where he studied music and theater. In 1965, Albin formed Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, Sam Andrew, James Gurley, and Dave Getz. The band released their debut album, Big Brother and the Holding Company, in 1967. The album was a commercial success, and the band went on to release several more albums, including Cheap Thrills (1968) and I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama! (1969). Albin left Big Brother and the Holding Company in 1972 and went on to pursue a solo career. He released his debut solo album, Peter Albin, in 1975. He has since released several more solo albums, including Peter Albin and Friends (1977), Peter Albin and the Rhythm Kings (1980), and Peter Albin and the Blues Band (1982). Albin has also acted in several films, including The Rose (1979), The Right Stuff (1983), and The Doors (1991). As of 2021, Peter Albin's net worth is estimated to be roughly $2 million.
