Peter Alvarado was an American animator and art director who worked in the animation industry for over 40 years. He was born in Raton, New Mexico, and began his career in the late 1940s. He worked on a variety of animated films and television shows, including The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, The Smurfs, and The Transformers. Alvarado was a member of the Motion Picture Screen Cartoonists union and was a recipient of the Winsor McCay Award in 1992. He passed away in 2004 at the age of 84.

For the next six years, he contributed to many of the Foghorn Leghorn, Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny cartoons and is credited as having designed the original backgrounds for the first Road Runner short, Fast and Furry-ous (1949).

From 1948, he sidelined doing comic book art work (along with the three McKimson brothers) for Western Publishing, as well as drawing cartoons for Disney, Hanna-Barbera, Walter Lantz and Warner Brothers newspaper strips.
