He received his bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University in 1978 and his Ph.D. in industrial relations from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1983. He was a member of WEF's Global Agenda Council on Employment, and a senior advisor for employment policy to the Kingdom of Bahrain between 2003 and 2005.
