Timeline
He was a production designer, known for Miss Congeniality (2000), Get Shorty (1995) and Tootsie (1982). He was married to Racelle Strick.
Peter Larkin, a New York City Broadway Scenic Designer designed the original Edwin Lester produced Los Angeles and San Francisco Civic Light Opera Association production of the 1954 stage musical adaptation "Peter Pan, The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up." Mary Martin and the production moved to New York in October 1954 after the successful San Francisco and Los Angeles tryout run during the 1954 June-August Summer. The original production and cast featured in the NBC "Producers Showcase" broadcast on television. Although the Broadway box office continued to be strong throughout the Broadway run, the production closed in order for a telecast of the musical. The aim of the "Producers' Showcase" was to broadcast expensive color spectaculars to promote the new color television system developed by NBC's parent company RCA. On March 7, 1955, NBC presented "Peter Pan" live as part of "Producer's Showcase" as the first full-length Broadway production on a "live" color TV telecast. The television telecast attracted a then-record viewing audience of 65 million viewers, the highest ever up to that time for a single television broadcast program. Marry Martin won an EMMY Award for the television production. So well received that the musical was re-staged "live and in color" for television on 9 January 1956. Both of these broadcasts were produced live and in color, but only black-and-white kine-scope recordings survive. The telecast special with rebroadcasts in 1956, and in 1960 with the same stars, production costumes and scenery. The re-staged 1960 telecast had new children in the cast because the original kids had grown to old for their parts. NBC's Color Television network 90 minute anthology series "Producers' Showcase," broadcast the original Broadway cast performance on March 7, 1955, using the original production's sets and costumes. Peter Larkin supervised the Brooklyn television studio stage set-ups of his original stage settings.
