He began his musical career as a trumpeter in the 1960s, playing in various jazz and rock bands. In the 1970s, he began to focus on vocal improvisation, and in 1975 he formed the Feral Choir, a group dedicated to free improvisation. Minton has released numerous solo albums, including Mouthfull of Ecstasy (1996), The Only Life I Know (1998), and A Doughnut in Both Hands (2001). He has also collaborated with a variety of musicians, including John Zorn, Derek Bailey, Evan Parker, and many others. Minton has also acted in several films, including The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover (1989), The War Zone (1999), and The Libertine (2004). Minton is currently 81 years old.
