He is best known for illustrating books written by Roald Dahl, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, and The Twits. He has also written and illustrated his own books, such as Clown and The Green Ship. Blake was born in Sidcup, Kent, England, and studied at the Royal College of Art. He has been awarded numerous awards, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration in 2002, and the Eleanor Farjeon Award in 2007. He was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to illustration.
