R. Dale Butts was an American composer and music department head. He was born in Lamasco, Kentucky, and attended the University of Kentucky. He began his career in the music industry in the 1930s, working as a composer and arranger for various radio programs. He also wrote music for films, including the classic western "High Noon" (1952). Butts was the music department head at Universal Pictures from 1952 to 1965. During his tenure, he wrote music for many of the studio's films, including "The Incredible Shrinking Man" (1957), "The Birds" (1963), and "The Great Race" (1965). He also wrote the theme song for the television series "The Munsters" (1964-1966). Butts retired from Universal in 1965 and moved to California, where he continued to compose music for television and film. He wrote the theme song for the television series "The Flying Nun" (1967-1970) and the score for the film "The Poseidon Adventure" (1972). He also wrote the music for the television series "The Six Million Dollar Man" (1974-1978). R. Dale Butts died on October 15, 1995 in Los Angeles, California. He was 85 years old.
