Rafael Azcona was a Spanish screenwriter and novelist. He was born in Logroño, La Rioja, Spain, on October 24, 1926. He studied law at the University of Zaragoza and worked as a journalist before becoming a screenwriter. He wrote more than 50 screenplays, including the classic Spanish comedy "El Verdugo" (1963). He also wrote several novels, including "La Muerte de un Presidente" (1966). He was awarded the National Prize for Cinematography in 1989. He died in Madrid on April 28, 2008.
