Selim was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 1 July 1954. He studied music at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and graduated in 1975. He began his career as a music director in the film industry in 1978. He has composed music for over 100 films, including the critically acclaimed films “Amar Bondhu Rashed” (1985) and “Shonar Kella” (1994). Selim has also composed music for television dramas, stage plays, and television commercials. He has won numerous awards, including the National Film Award for Best Music Direction in 2003. He has also been awarded the Ekushey Padak, the highest civilian award in Bangladesh, in 2020. Selim is married and has two children. He currently resides in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
