Raj Kanwar

The veteran filmmaker, Raj and Anita Kanwar had two sons, Karan Raj Kanwar and Abhay. On 3 February 2012, he died due to a kidney ailment in Singapore. He was educated in Col. Brown Cambridge School in Dehra Dun.

Raj Kanwar had started a movie titled Daulat featuring Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan, Sunny Deol, Reena Roy, Juhi Chawla, Sonali Bendre, Mamta Kulkarni and Raj Babbar in pivotal roles in the year 1997 but the movie couldn't happened because of the schedule conflicts of the actors. Raj Babbar and Reena Roy were cast as husband and wife in the film Sunny Deol, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan were signed to play the sons of Reena Roy and Raj Babbar. Juhi Chawla was cast opposite Sunny Deol, Mamta Kulkarni opposite Akshay Kumar and Sonali Bendre opposite Ajay Devgan

Kanwar began his career directing plays in Delhi. He then moved to Mumbai where he worked as an assistant to directors like Shekhar Kapur and Raj Kumar Santoshi. His directorial debut was Deewana. Released in 1992, the film was a box office Blockbuster and marked the screen debut of Shahrukh Khan. He directed several other box office hits like Laadla (1994), Jaan (1996), Jeet (1996), Judaai (1997), Daag: The Fire (1999) and Badal (2000). Kanwar went on to discover actors like Lara Dutta and Priyanka Chopra whom he cast in his film Andaaz in 2003. His last film was Sadiyaan (2010). He has done a most of films with Anurag Singh (director)
