Ramón Miranda Ampuero was a Spanish-born Iranian diplomat and politician who served as the Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations from 1967 to 1971. He was born in Madrid, Spain, on 28 October 1926. He studied law at the University of Madrid and obtained a doctorate in international law from the University of Paris. He then joined the Iranian diplomatic service and served in various posts in the Iranian embassies in Paris, London, and Washington, D.C. In 1967, he was appointed as the Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations, a post he held until 1971. During his tenure, he was a strong advocate for the rights of developing countries and was instrumental in the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement. He was also a member of the International Court of Justice from 1971 to 1976. After his retirement from the diplomatic service, he served as a professor of international law at the University of Tehran. Ramón Miranda Ampuero passed away on 15 April 2021 at the age of 97.
