Ramón Wiltz is a Cuban musician and composer. He is best known for his work in the genres of salsa, mambo, and Latin jazz. He has composed and arranged music for many of the most popular Cuban and Latin American artists, including Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, and Gloria Estefan. Wiltz was born in Havana, Cuba, on December 12, 1926. He began playing the piano at the age of five and was soon performing in local clubs. He studied music at the National Conservatory of Music in Havana and later at the University of Havana. In the 1950s, Wiltz moved to New York City and began working as a session musician and arranger for Latin music labels. He worked with many of the top Latin music artists of the time, including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, and Gloria Estefan. He also composed and arranged music for films, television, and theater. In the 1970s, Wiltz returned to Cuba and continued to compose and arrange music for Cuban and Latin American artists. He also wrote and arranged music for the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra. Wiltz has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the National Music Award from the Cuban government in 1997. He continues to compose and arrange music and perform in Cuba and abroad.
