Ran and his friends went to the school board to try and get a Prom for their senior year and even quoted from the bible, but were shot down. They held a private prom outside the city limits in a barn. The story made the news and papers. A few years later, a film came out called "Footloose". The story was so close to Ran's struggles to get a prom that they consulted a lawyer to see what they could do. The writer of the film lived just a few hours from Ran's hometown and said he took the story from news articles, but has never said it was based on any certain place or person. The character in "Footloose" was named Ren.
