Raul Seixas was a Brazilian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and poet. He was a pioneer of Brazilian rock and is sometimes called the "Father of Brazilian Rock" and "Maluco Beleza". His songs are marked by humorous wordplay, ironic criticism of Brazilian society, and references to mysticism and religious controversy. Raul Seixas was born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, on 28 June 1945. He was the son of a military officer and a housewife. He began playing guitar at the age of 12 and wrote his first song at the age of 14. Raul Seixas released his first album, "Krig-ha, Bandolo!", in 1972. The album was a success and established him as one of the most important figures in Brazilian rock. He released several more albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including "Sociedade Alternativa" (1975), "Gita" (1977), and "Novos Horizontes" (1981). Raul Seixas died on 21 August 1989, at the age of 44, due to complications from hepatitis. He was posthumously inducted into the Brazilian Music Hall of Fame in 2002.
