Ray Barretto was a Grammy Award-winning Latin jazz and salsa musician. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and began playing the conga drums at the age of 12. He was a pioneer in the development of Latin jazz and salsa music, and was a major influence on the development of the genre. Barretto's career spanned more than five decades, and he released over 30 albums. He was a member of the Fania All-Stars, and was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame in 1995. He won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Album in 1998 for his album "Rican/Struction". Barretto passed away in 2006 at the age of 76. He was survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. His legacy lives on through his music, which continues to be enjoyed by fans around the world.
