Rex Barnes is a Canadian politician who was born on 4 June, 1959 in Grand Falls-Windsor, Canada. He is currently the Member of the House of Assembly for the district of Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor-Buchans in Newfoundland and Labrador. Barnes attended Memorial University of Newfoundland and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He then went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of New Brunswick. Barnes has been involved in politics since the early 1990s, when he was elected to the Grand Falls-Windsor Town Council. He was then elected to the House of Assembly in 2003 and has been re-elected in 2007, 2011, and 2015. Barnes is married to his wife, Debbie, and they have two children. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping. Barnes is currently the Minister of Fisheries and Land Resources in the Newfoundland and Labrador government. He is also the Chair of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Land Resources.
