He attended the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, where he studied film and television. Rhys Thomas began his career in television in 2003, working as a production assistant on the BBC series The Office. He then went on to work as a director on the BBC series Little Britain and the BBC Three series Ideal. In 2008, Rhys Thomas moved to the United States to work on Saturday Night Live. He has since directed numerous episodes of the show, as well as episodes of Documentary Now!, The Simpsons, Parks and Recreation, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and The Office. Rhys Thomas has won two Emmy Awards for his work on Saturday Night Live. He has also been nominated for two Writers Guild of America Awards for his work on Documentary Now! and The Simpsons.
