Ricardo Velarde is a Mexican diver who was born on 5 June 1954 in Mexico. He is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won a silver medal in the men's 10m platform event at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, and a bronze medal in the men's 10m platform event at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. He also won a gold medal in the men's 10m platform event at the 1979 Pan American Games in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Velarde began his diving career at the age of 12, and was a member of the Mexican national diving team from 1972 to 1984. He was the Mexican national champion in the men's 10m platform event from 1972 to 1984. Velarde is currently the president of the Mexican Diving Federation, and is a member of the International Swimming Hall of Fame. He is married to his wife, Maria, and has two children. He currently resides in Mexico City.
