The dinner has been held each year since 1920 and often is attended by the President of the United States and other powerful figures in government, as well as members of the press and celebrities. President George W. Bush attended the 2007 dinner, which in addition to Little, featured David Letterman doing a "Top 10 George W. Bush Moments" shtick. ABC News anchorman Charles Gibson, former CBS News anchorman Bob Schieffer, and George Stephanopoulus of ABC News were among the members of the press attending the dinner, while the politicos in attendance included current and former New York Mayors Michael Bloomberg and Rudy Giuliani. The celebrities in attendance included Olympic figure skater Michelle Kwan, American Idol (2002) contestant Sanjaya Malakar, two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda, and television stars Teri Hatcher, Bill Paxton and Larry David. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice also was in attendance. Schieffer lauded Little's Master of Ceremonies performance, commenting "I thought he was great. Generally old-fashioned kind of humor but funny.".
