Richard Afton was a British film producer, writer, and director. He was born in Hull, Humberside, England, UK on 22 February 1911. He was best known for producing the classic British comedy films The Ladykillers (1955) and The Lavender Hill Mob (1951). Afton began his career in the film industry in the 1930s, working as a scriptwriter and assistant director. He wrote and directed several short films before producing his first feature film, The Lavender Hill Mob, in 1951. The film was a critical and commercial success, and won an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. Afton went on to produce several other successful films, including The Ladykillers (1955), The Man in the White Suit (1951), and The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956).
