Rick Rescorla was an English-born American soldier and security officer who is best known for his heroic actions during the September 11 attacks. He was born in Hayle, Cornwall, England, on May 27, 1939. He served in the British Army and the United States Army, and was a Vietnam War veteran. Rescorla was the Vice President of Security for Morgan Stanley at the World Trade Center. On the morning of September 11, 2001, he was credited with evacuating more than 2,700 people from the South Tower before it collapsed. He was last seen on the 10th floor of the South Tower, heading back up to help evacuate more people. His body was never found. Rescorla was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service. He was also inducted into the Pentagon Hall of Heroes in 2002.
