Rick Steves is an American travel writer, author, activist, and television personality. He is best known for his travel guidebooks and his public television series, Rick Steves' Europe. He is also the host of the public radio show Travel with Rick Steves. Rick Steves was born on May 10, 1955, in Barstow, California. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1978 with a degree in Business Administration. In 1980, Steves opened a retail store in Edmonds, Washington, selling travel gear and offering travel classes. He began writing guidebooks in 1983, and in 1990, he launched his public television series, Rick Steves' Europe. In addition to his travel guidebooks and television series, Steves has written several books on European history and culture, and he has also written a book on the history of the United States. He is a vocal advocate for the legalization of marijuana and has spoken out against the war in Iraq. As of 2021, Rick Steves' net worth is estimated to be roughly $10 million.
