Roger Deakins is a British cinematographer who has worked on some of the most acclaimed films of the past few decades. He has been nominated for 13 Academy Awards for his work, and has won two. He has also won four BAFTA Awards and seven American Society of Cinematographers Awards. Deakins began his career in the 1970s, working on documentaries and television shows. He made his feature film debut in 1984 with the British drama The Killing Fields. (March 4, 2018) During a post Oscar ceremonies interview, Deakins declared that he was especially delighted to have received his first Oscar alongside fellow Brit and first time Oscar winner Gary Oldman (for Darkest Hour (2017)). Early in their careers Roger filmed Sid and Nancy (1986) in which Gary made his breakthrough performance. This was their only collaboration.
