Roland Kotani is an American politician who served as a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1982 to 1994. He was born on June 15, 1954 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Kotani graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1976 with a degree in political science. He then attended the University of Hawaii's William S. Richardson School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1979. Kotani was first elected to the Hawaii House of Representatives in 1982 and served until 1994. During his time in office, he served as the chair of the House Judiciary Committee and the House Finance Committee. He also served as the House Majority Leader from 1988 to 1992. Kotani was a member of the Democratic Party and was a strong advocate for civil rights and environmental protection. He was also a strong supporter of Hawaiian sovereignty and was a leader in the effort to pass the Akaka Bill, which would have granted Native Hawaiians federal recognition. Kotani is currently a partner at the law firm of Kotani & Associates, where he specializes in civil litigation, business law, and Native Hawaiian law. He is also a member of the Hawaii Bar Association and the American Bar Association. As of 2021, Roland Kotani's net worth is estimated to be roughly $1 million.
