Ron Eglash is an American professor and author. He is a professor of Science and Technology Studies at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He is also a visiting professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. Eglash is best known for his work on African Fractals, a concept he developed to explain the use of fractal geometry in African art and architecture. He has written several books on the subject, including African Fractals: Modern Computing and Indigenous Design (1999) and Ethnomathematics: Challenging Eurocentrism in Mathematics Education (2003). Eglash has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Michigan. He has received numerous awards and honors, including the National Science Foundation's Presidential Faculty Fellowship and the American Association for the Advancement of Science's Newcomb Cleveland Prize.
