Roy Edward Disney was an American businessman, producer, writer, and director. He was the son of Roy Oliver Disney and Edna Francis Disney, and the nephew of Walt Disney. He was the last member of the Disney family to be actively involved in the company. Disney was born on January 10, 1930 in Los Angeles, California. He attended Pomona College in Claremont, California, where he graduated with a degree in English literature. Disney began his career at the Walt Disney Company in 1954, working in the animation department. He eventually became the head of the animation department, and was responsible for the production of several classic Disney films, including The Jungle Book, The Aristocats, and The Rescuers. In 1984, Disney was appointed vice chairman of the board of directors of the Walt Disney Company, and in 2003, he was named a director emeritus. Disney was also involved in several philanthropic endeavors, including the Roy and Patricia Disney Family Cancer Center, the Roy and Patricia Disney Cancer Institute, and the Roy and Patricia Disney Foundation. Disney passed away on December 16, 2009 at the age of 79. He was survived by his wife, Leslie DeMeuse Disney, and their two children, Roy Patrick Disney and Abigail Disney.
