Rue McClanahan was an American actress, best known for her role as Blanche Devereaux on the hit sitcom The Golden Girls. She was born on February 21, 1934 in Healdton, Oklahoma. She attended the University of Tulsa and Northwestern University, where she studied drama. McClanahan began her career in the theater, appearing in productions of The Skin of Our Teeth and The Seven Year Itch. She made her television debut in the soap opera Another World in 1965. She went on to appear in a number of television shows, including All in the Family, Maude, and The Love Boat. In 1985, McClanahan was cast as Blanche Devereaux in the hit sitcom The Golden Girls. The show ran for seven seasons and earned McClanahan an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1987. McClanahan continued to act after The Golden Girls ended in 1992. She appeared in a number of films and television shows, including The Simpsons, The Nanny, and Boy Meets World. McClanahan was married three times and had one son. She died on June 3, 2010 at the age of 76. At the time of her death, her net worth was estimated to be $40 million.
