S. K. Majumdar (Maju) was an Indian Air Force officer who served as the Chief of Air Staff from 1985 to 1988. He was born on 8 October 1927 in Patna, British India. He was educated at the National Defence Academy, Pune and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. Maju joined the Indian Air Force in 1948 and was commissioned as a Pilot Officer in 1950. He served in various capacities in the IAF, including as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Air Command from 1982 to 1985. He was appointed as the Chief of Air Staff in 1985 and served in that position until 1988. Maju was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 1983 and the Padma Vibhushan in 1988. He was also awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 1985 and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 1988. Maju passed away on 28 April 2021 at the age of 96. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
