Sahana Pradhan is a Nepalese politician who served as the Prime Minister of Nepal from 1975 to 1977. She was the first female Prime Minister of Nepal and the first female head of government in South Asia. Born on 17 June 1927 in Asan, Kathmandu, Nepal, Pradhan was educated at the Padmakanya School in Kathmandu. She then went on to study at the University of Calcutta in India, where she earned a degree in political science. Pradhan began her political career in the 1950s, when she joined the Nepali Congress Party. She was elected to the National Assembly in 1959 and served as a member of the Constituent Assembly from 1959 to 1960. In 1975, Pradhan was appointed Prime Minister of Nepal, becoming the first female Prime Minister of the country. During her tenure, she focused on improving the country's infrastructure and education system. She also worked to improve the status of women in Nepal. In 1977, Pradhan resigned from her post and returned to her political career. She was elected to the House of Representatives in 1979 and served as a member of the National Assembly from 1981 to 1986. Pradhan is currently 87 years old.
