He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dhaka University in 1950. He started his political career in 1954 when he was elected as a Member of Parliament from Gazipur-2 constituency. He was re-elected in the 1970 and 1979 general elections. He was appointed as the Minister of Education in 1996 and served until 2001. Shamsul Haq is 89 years old and has a net worth of $1 million.
