He has also worked with artists such as Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Santana. Born on June 26, 1959, in Oakland, California, Burns began playing guitar at the age of 12. He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied music and theater. After college, he moved to Los Angeles and began working as a session musician. In the early 1980s, Burns joined Huey Lewis and the News as a guitarist. He toured with the band for several years and appeared on their albums Sports (1983) and Fore! (1986). He also co-wrote the song "Jacob's Ladder" with Lewis, which was featured in the film Back to the Future Part III. In addition to his work with Huey Lewis and the News, Burns has worked with a variety of other artists, including Elton John, Rod Stewart, and Santana. He has also released several solo albums, including his debut, Burning Time (1995). Burns has also appeared in several films, including The Doors (1991), The Cowboy Way (1994), and The Cable Guy (1996). He has also appeared in television shows such as The Simpsons and The X-Files.
