He is the son of the late industrialist and former Orkla CEO, Odd Reitan. Hagen attended the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration, graduating with a degree in business administration in 1979. He began his career at Orkla in 1981, and was appointed CEO in 1989. He held this position until 2004, when he was appointed Chairman of the Board. Hagen is one of the wealthiest people in Norway, with an estimated net worth of $2.3 billion. He is also a major shareholder in Orkla, owning approximately 10% of the company. Hagen is married to Anne-Kari Hagen, and they have three children. He is an avid hunter and fisherman, and is a member of the Norwegian Hunting and Fishing Association.
