Stephen Perry is an American businessman and entrepreneur. He is the former chairman and CEO of the telecommunications company MCI Communications Corporation. He is also the founder and chairman of the Perry Initiative, a non-profit organization that works to inspire young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Perry was born in Waterville, Maine, and graduated from Colby College in 1976 with a degree in economics. He began his career at MCI in 1982, and was appointed CEO in 1997. During his tenure, MCI grew from a small long-distance provider to a global telecommunications giant. In 2003, Perry left MCI and founded the Perry Initiative, a non-profit organization that works to inspire young women to pursue careers in STEM. He is also a board member of the National Geographic Society, the Smithsonian Institution, and the National Academy of Engineering. Perry is married to his wife, Susan, and they have two children. He is an avid golfer and enjoys skiing and sailing.
