Steve White (saxophonist) is an American jazz saxophonist and composer. He is best known for his work with the Count Basie Orchestra, with whom he performed from 1956 to 1962. He has also performed with the likes of Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Dizzy Gillespie. White was born in Fresno, California, and began playing the saxophone at the age of 12. He attended Fresno State College, where he studied music and played in the college band. After college, he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, White moved to Los Angeles and began playing in jazz clubs. He soon joined the Count Basie Orchestra, with whom he toured and recorded for six years. During this time, he also recorded with Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, and Dizzy Gillespie. In 1962, White left the Basie Orchestra and moved to New York City, where he continued to perform and record with a variety of jazz musicians. He also began teaching at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. In the late 1960s, White moved to San Francisco, where he continued to perform and teach. He also began composing and arranging music for television and film. White has released several albums as a leader, including "The Steve White Quartet" (1966), "The Steve White Trio" (1968), and "The Steve White Quartet Live at the Jazz Workshop" (1970). White is now retired and living in San Francisco. He is 80 years old.

Steve White (born Stephen Gaylord Goorabian, sometimes spelled "Gailord"; November 20, 1925 – December 21, 2005) was an American jazz saxophonist based in Los Angeles who recorded in the 1950s for Nocturne, Pacific Jazz, and Atlantic. He primarily played tenor saxophone, but he also played baritone and clarinet. Steve White was friends with jazz musicians Harry Babasin and Bob Enevoldsen. White's father was a saxophonist and member of the Jimmy Dorsey Band. His father was the first to use the pseudonym "White."
