Stu Gillespie is a former New Zealand cricketer who played in two Test matches and four One Day Internationals for the national team. He was born on 2 March 1957 in Whanganui, New Zealand. Gillespie was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He made his first-class debut for Central Districts in the 1976-77 season and went on to play for them until the end of the 1985-86 season. He also played for Wellington in the 1986-87 season. Gillespie made his Test debut against Pakistan in the 1985-86 season and played his second and final Test against India in the 1986-87 season. He made his ODI debut against India in the 1986-87 season and played his last ODI against Australia in the 1987-88 season. Gillespie was a successful first-class cricketer, taking over 500 wickets and scoring over 5,000 runs. He was also a successful List A cricketer, taking over 200 wickets and scoring over 1,000 runs. Gillespie is currently 67 years old. He has an estimated net worth of $1 million.

He missed the 1987 World Cup, but returned for the World Series Cup following the tournament, where he played all eight group stage matches and took seven wickets - before he was replaced by Richard Hadlee for the final series.

He played as a specialist seam bowler, although he did make 28 in his only Test innings as nightwatchman. His Test selection came after taking 13 wickets in the 1985–86 One Day International World Series Cup, although he had only played two first class games in the preceding two seasons. Gillespie took one wicket for 79, which was not enough to keep his place, and after three wickets at a bowling average just above 60 in the 1985–86 home series against Australia he was dropped.
