Surya Pratap Shahi is an Indian agriculturalist and advocate. He is the founder of the National Alliance of Farmers' Movements (NAFM), a non-governmental organization that works to promote the rights of farmers in India. He is also the founder of the National Alliance of Agricultural Movements (NAAM), an organization that works to promote sustainable agriculture in India. Shahi was born in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, India. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Allahabad in 1975. He then went on to receive his Master of Science degree in Agriculture from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in 1977. Shahi has been actively involved in the Indian agricultural sector since the late 1970s. He has served as the president of the All India Kisan Sabha, a farmers' organization, from 1985 to 1989. He has also served as the president of the National Alliance of Farmers' Movements (NAFM) since its inception in 1989. Shahi has been a vocal advocate for the rights of farmers in India. He has been a strong proponent of sustainable agriculture and has been a vocal critic of the government's agricultural policies. He has also been a vocal critic of the government's failure to provide adequate support to farmers in India. Shahi has received numerous awards and honors for his work in the agricultural sector. In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honors. He has also been awarded the Right Livelihood Award in 2011 and the World Food Prize in 2012.

Shahi contested the assembly election of Uttar Pradesh first time in the year 1980. However, he got elected first time as MLA from 'Kasia' assembly seat in 1985. Second time he won the election in 1991 and became the Minister of State for Home in Uttar Pradesh government. After completing one year in the government he was elevated to the position of Cabinet Minister with the portfolio of Health and Family Welfare. In the year 1996, he again got elected as MLA. Surya Pratap Shahi held the office of Cabinet Minister in Uttar Pradesh government between 1997 and 2002 with the portfolio of Excise and Liquor Prohibition and currently he is a cabinet minister in Uttar Pradesh Government with the portfolio of Agriculture, Agriculture Education and Agriculture Research.

Surya Pratap Shahi (born 23 December 1952) is a Member of 9th, 11th, 13th and 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. Currently he is serving as Cabinet Minister in Uttar Pradesh Government with the portfolio of Agriculture, Agriculture Education and Agriculture Research. He has worked as the president of Uttar Pradesh state unit in the past. He is one of distinguished BJP leaders who won election in 1985 despite Indira sympathy wave after assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984.

Shahi was born on 23 December 1952 in Pakargarh Village of Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, India. He got his early education from GIC Deoria. He completed his graduation from B.R.D. Post Graduate College. Shahi got his LLB degree from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in 1974. His father Rajendra Kishor Shahi was District Sanchalak of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), who introduced him to the RSS at a very early age. Shahi was politically active since the student days. He contested and won election of student union in BHU. His Uncle Ravindra Kishor Shahi was State President of Bhartiya Jana Sangh and a minister in Uttar Pradesh government from 1977 to 1979. Shahi was married in 1973 to Srimati Rani Shahi. He has three children a son and two daughters.
