Susan Nye, Baroness Nye is a British civil servant and Labour life peer. She was born on 17 May 1955 in Denmark Hill, London. She was educated at the University of Sussex, where she obtained a degree in economics. Nye began her career in the civil service in 1977, working in the Department of Employment. She then moved to the Department of Health and Social Security, where she worked on the development of the National Health Service. She later worked in the Cabinet Office, where she was responsible for the development of the Government's strategy for public service reform. In 2001, Nye was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath in recognition of her services to the civil service. In 2004, she was made a life peer, taking the title Baroness Nye of Lambeth. She has since served as a Labour whip in the House of Lords. Nye is married to the Labour peer Lord Nye, and they have two children. She is a keen supporter of the arts, and is a patron of the Royal Academy of Arts.
