Susan Weber is an American art historian, curator, and philanthropist. She is the founder and director of the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts, Design, and Culture in New York City. She is also the founder and president of the Bard Graduate Center Foundation. Born in 1954 in Brooklyn, New York, Weber attended the University of Michigan, where she earned a bachelor's degree in art history in 1976. She then went on to earn a master's degree in art history from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University in 1979. Weber began her career as a curator at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York City in 1979. She then went on to become the director of the Bard Graduate Center in 1993. Under her leadership, the center has become a leading institution for the study of the decorative arts, design, and culture. Weber has also served as a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the American Academy in Rome, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She is a member of the American Philosophical Society and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Weber is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French government, the National Humanities Medal from the United States government, and the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
