She is also the chairperson of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA). Born in 1953 in Klang, Malaysia, Tan Yee Kew is the daughter of a rubber tapper. She attended the University of Malaya and graduated with a degree in economics. Tan Yee Kew began her career in the banking industry, working for the Bank of America in Kuala Lumpur. She then moved to the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) and eventually became its chairperson. In 1989, Tan Yee Kew founded YKGI Holdings Berhad, a leading Malaysian conglomerate. 2018

In 2018 general election, Tan moved to Wangsa Maju in Kuala Lumpur, and defeated Yew Teong Look, the candidate of MCA, with 24,238 votes majority.

2013

During the 2013 general election, Tan contested as PKR candidate for the parliamentary seat of Tanjong Malim in Perak, against MCA's Ong Ka Chuan, the Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry, but she lost by 4,328 votes.

2008

Before she quit from Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) in 2008, she was elected as the MP for Klang or three terms from 1995 to 2008, and appointed as the Parliamentary secretary of Ministry of International Trade and Industry in the former Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition government in 2004.

Anyhow, Tan was censured on violating the party disciplines, and her party membership had been suspended for 6 months in 2005. Furthermore, she was dropped as the candidate of 2008 general election, where MCA and BN suffered a great loss in Selangor later. Tan quit herself from MCA in 17 July 2008 and joined PKR with more than thousand of followers.

1998

Tan was also the Director of the Port Klang Authority from 1998 to 2001, before she was appointed as the Parliamentary secretary of Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 2004.

1986

Tan joined MCA in 1986, and became the Deputy Chairperson of the Women's Wing (Wanita MCA) from 1996 till 2005. She also served as the Wanita Chief of Selangor and a member of Central Committee of the party.
